This song of honour and admiration is dedicated to the life and legacy of Kiskayetum - Allen Sapp, a Cree painter who grew up on Red Pheasant Reserve, SK. His paintings tell stories through powerful images of the Plains Cree people,

A man, with a gifted hand, had the eyes of a child.
He drew it in the sand, ‘til paintings captured all those horses running wild. And the bison roam the prairies where the sage and sweetgrass grow, and his eyes can see much further than the world that we know and it goes…

Her home was always warm, the humble start of his fame.
His kookum was the first, of portraits of their faces with familiar names. They’d tell stories ‘round the fire of the ways when they were young, and he saw it all in colour, his hand steady on the drum as it goes…

Kiskayetum, Allen Sapp’s given name.
He perceives it, and it is through his eyes that we can do the same.
He’d tell stories through his paintings of the things that he could see, of a life that wasn’t chosen but lived how it was to be, on it goes…

He found his true love there, right by Creator’s side.
She had a cup of red rose tea to share with him, along with memories of the days gone by.
And they tell stories ‘round the fire of the ways when they were young and he sees it all in colour, his hand steady on the drum, as it goes… A man with a gifted hand, had the eyes of child ‘til he left this land…
